Toshō (Needle Juniper)
Named: -
Estimated Age:300 years
Size:H: 62cm
As its sharp, pointed needles were used to ward off rats, the needle juniper is sometimes also called the nezumi-sashi, meaning “rat stabber”, in Japanese. It is also sometimes called just nezu, meaning “rat”. The majority of this piece’s swirling trunk has transformed into white shari, giving it a sharp beauty like that of hoarfrost on trees on the summit of a mountain.
