Ezo-matsu (Ezo Spruce)
Named: -
Estimated Age:100 years
Size:W: 116cm × H: 125cm
Many Ezo spruce were collected and cultivated from the Kurile Islands and Kunashir in Hokkaido. From Hokkaido, they spread throughout Japan from the Showa period (1926-1989). With its characteristic bark and its small, thin, deep green foliage, the Ezo spruce is distinguishable from all other pines, making it very attractive as a bonsai. These attractive trees of varying sizes have been grown in the yoseue style, which places multiple trees together. The overall effect produces the feel of a broad swath of land on this stone base. This large bonsai, which measures over 1.8 meters from side to side, calls to mind a pine forest.
