A hollow, formed after parts of the trunk had died, peeks out from the base of the roots while the upper part of the trunk rises, embracing the shari, or dead whitewood, that runs along it. The name of this bonsai is Chihiro, the characters for which mean fathomless; a name well suited for this piece which gives the feeling of the majestic age this tree has gained.
